The fighters decided to show the Japanese a Mexican style. A wild exchange in the 3rd round. Both forgot about defense. This is not beneficial for Calisto, especially considering that he is already tired from the grappling and is now taking those wild and heavy overhands.
Apparently, someone explained to him during the break that this style of boxing isn't advisable. Calisto started using his footwork again, while Garcia looked heavy, wild, and predictable once more. In the 7th round, the slugger’s knees wobbled. This is not surprising, as he’s absorbing clean hits, including counter punches.
Calisto appears very passive compared to Garcia. He suffered a cut after a head clash. Surprise! Rene decided to impose a slugfest (!) on his opponent in the 9th round. He even pressured his opponent, pinning him against the ropes. No idea what the judges counted. The fighters also seem to be clueless—wild exchanges in the championship rounds.
Calisto is significantly more effective. Garcia is much more active. We await the judges' decision.
Wow! A split decision draw (118-110 Garcia, 116-112 Calisto, and 114-114). A SD 12 draw.
