The residents of the village of Zhibek Zholy, located in the outskirts of Astana, are outraged by ongoing water supply issues. Currently, around 12,000 people live there. A significant number of villagers complain that water from the central sources is supplied inconsistently. According to them, the water is turned off 5-6 times a week, as reported by the news agency "NewTimes.kz," referencing Astana TV.
For the past five years, the residents of Zhibek Zholy have been voicing their concerns about water issues. While some homes in the settlement are connected to the central water supply, interruptions in service occur periodically. This is particularly felt during the summer irrigation season. There are also concerns regarding the quality of the water.
This residential area consists of ten micro-districts. Five years ago, houses were connected to the water supply. It seemed that this would resolve the drinking water issue. However, instead, a series of emergency breaks followed. To this day, water is turned off for several hours. Local residents are forced to seek alternative solutions, which, by the way, are quite costly.
“We have a well, but it consumes a lot of power; the motor runs day and night. It drains electricity. We pay a lot for it, somewhere around 32-35 thousand tenge a month, because we also have a private transformer,” says resident Almagul Shaikenova.
On the other hand, Elena Skazskaya's home is not connected to the central water supply. The woman sees no point in this, as she claims the water is still of poor quality.
“Even residents of our settlement who have water supply are forced to buy water from vending machines because the quality is terrible and undrinkable. In the summer, there are constant problems with irrigation since we are in the private sector and everyone has a garden,” says Elena Skazskaya.
The problem is escalating year by year, complain the villagers.
“Naturally, schools and kindergartens are not operational. They are all connected to the central water supply,” laments Elena Skazskaya.
The servicing company acknowledges that effective measures are needed to resolve the issue, particularly regarding the expansion of reservoirs.
“In the winter, we use 1700-1800 cubic meters per day. In the summer, it goes up to 3,000. Our reservoirs hold only 1200. To be honest, we really need to expand. We should at least build additional reservoirs to reach 3-4 thousand,” commented the director of GKP-PVH “Arshaly Su-2030” of the Akimat of Arshaly District, Hakim Barlybay.
Local authorities also acknowledge the existing problem. The reason is the wear and tear of the pipes, officials note.
“The existing water pipeline was constructed in 2008. There is often physical wear on the joints and valves. This is why interruptions occur,” says the Akim of the Zhibek Zholy rural district, Kanat Kanafin.
According to the rural Akim, this issue is under constant control. In the near future, a technical inspection of the water supply facilities is planned. Based on this, further measures will be taken.
Recall that the Akim of Astana discussed how they provide water, heating, and sewage services.
It was also reported that residents of the village near Astana received electricity as a New Year’s gift.
