The Minister of Health of Kazakhstan, Akmaral Alnazarova, commented on the assault of a paramedic in Kostanay on her social media page, as reported by IA "NewTimes.kz".
“Recently, we faced another outrageous incident of an attack on paramedics of the Emergency Medical Service in Kostanay. A young emergency service employee, A.B., who responded to a call, ended up hospitalized with multiple injuries as a result of the assault.
I want to express my personal support to A.B.’s family, wish her a speedy recovery, and assure that we will not overlook this case,” the minister wrote.
She emphasized that emergency medical workers perform their duties under conditions of risk and high stress. They save lives daily, providing assistance in the most challenging and dangerous situations.
According to local executive authorities, from 2019 to 2023, 158 healthcare workers suffered injuries while performing their official duties in Kazakhstan. Among them, 46 cases occurred in 2022, 80 in 2023, and 9 incidents of assaults have been recorded in 2024.
“In this regard, with the support of deputies, we have initiated the introduction of criminal liability for violent actions against healthcare workers committed during the performance of their official duties. Such crimes must receive a fair measure of punishment, up to deprivation of liberty and condemnation by society as a whole. Thus, we must send a clear signal: violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable and will be punished,” the Health Minister reported.
Previously, a paramedic in Kostanay was assaulted while responding to a call. The medic was hospitalized with a concussion.
