This year, the prestigious honor was bestowed upon a citizen of Kazakhstan – Ruslan Kairambaev, an employee of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Korea, as reported by IA "NewTimes.kz" citing Astana TV.
Since the establishment of this title in 1958, a total of 933 individuals from 100 countries have been honored. This title is awarded to foreign citizens for their significant contributions to the development of Seoul. This year, 16 laureates received the award for their efforts in strengthening international cooperation and advancing the city.
The First Deputy Mayor of Seoul, Kim Sang-han, highlighted the outstanding achievements of the awardees and thanked them for their fruitful work, emphasizing the importance of bringing people and cultures closer together.
R. Kairambaev received recognition for his heroic act carried out in December of last year. He extinguished a burning car that was emerging from an underground parking lot before the firefighters arrived. Thanks to his decisive actions, he was able to prevent the spread of the fire and avert human casualties.
Speaking on behalf of all the awardees, the Kazakh diplomat expressed gratitude to the Seoul City Hall for the honor and stated that he does not consider his actions heroic: "Anyone in my position would have done the same." He also expressed hope that his example would strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between Kazakhstan and Korea.
The awarding of this honor symbolizes the strengthening of bilateral ties between Kazakhstan and South Korea and underscores the importance of solidarity in the development of international relations.
