It was previously reported that up to 80 people were injured. After the attack, paramedics are on duty at the scene, providing assistance to the injured who are lying on the ground in front of market stalls.
The Christmas market was closed following the attack, and tram services were suspended. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz posted on platform X:
"Reports from Magdeburg suggest the worst. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand with them and the residents of Magdeburg. My gratitude goes to the dedicated rescue services during these distressing hours."
A representative of the Magdeburg police stated that it is still unclear whether the perpetrator acted alone. He traveled "at least 400 meters through the Christmas market," the police reported.
Recall that a vehicle drove into a crowd of people at the Christmas market in Magdeburg. The tragedy occurred on the anniversary of the Berlin attack. On December 19, 2016, a truck crashed into a crowded square at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz. As a result, 11 people were killed, and more than 50 visitors sustained injuries of varying severity.
