According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle drove directly into a crowd of people near the town hall. The Christmas market had been closed, and organizers urged everyone to leave the city center.
As per BILD, the police are searching the cordoned-off area of the Christmas market for explosives.
As reported by the MDR broadcasting company, the police have classified this attack as a terrorist act.
It is important to note that the incident in Magdeburg occurred on the anniversary of the Berlin attack. Recall that on December 19, 2016, a truck drove into a crowded square at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz. As a result, 11 people lost their lives, and over 50 visitors sustained varying degrees of injury.
